About NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid)
NJ FamilyCare is New Jersey's Medicaid and CHIP program, run by the state Department of Human Services. It provides free or low-cost health coverage to eligible children, pregnant women, and families. Children under 19 can qualify with family incomes up to 355% of the federal poverty level — for a family of four, that's roughly $9,500 per month. Since January 2023, the Cover All Kids initiative extends eligibility to all income-eligible children regardless of immigration status. Enrollment is open year-round.
Who is eligible?
Children under 19 who are NJ residents and meet income guidelines. Immigration status is not a factor for children under 19. Apply online at njfamilycare.dhs.state.nj.us, by phone at 1-800-701-0710, or in person at your county welfare office. There is no enrollment window — you can apply any time.
